Hey everyone! I’m back home in Miami after an epic, 3-week-long trip to India. I recently heard about an awesome and eclectic local restaurant called Tacos & Tattoos, which serves New American cuisine with Caribbean influences. I love tacos and I have tattoos, so I knew I had to check it out! Come along with me and let’s have some delicious and unique food!

This funky, family-owned restaurant wears its uniqueness like a badge of honor, from an exciting name that perfectly describes what to expect when you walk in, to the artwork depicting characters from popular animes and the Marvel universe on its walls. Even the tables are decked out in tattoo-inspired artwork created by the owner, Jonathan Cruz, his friends, and other local artists. This place is all about family and culture, and it’s easy to see how proud Jonathan is of his restaurant.
In addition to several amazing menu items, Tacos & Tattoos also offers a big selection of craft beers, with 12 different drafts and 30 bottled beers to choose from, including many that are from right here in Miami.
Here’s what I tried at Tacos & Tattoos!
-Craft Beer
I started off my meal with a local craft beer called the Poquito Stout, which comes from a local brewery called Wynwood Brewing Co. It’s an incredible stout, and is high in alcohol.
-Tostones Rellenos
The first food I tried was the Tostones Rellenos, which is a fried plantain that is topped with shrimp, pico de gallo, pickled cabbage, and garlic aioli. The aioli was amazing and I loved the contrast between the hard, fried plantain and the shrimp. One dish in and I was already blown away!
-Buffalo Chicken Taco
Next, I went with the Buffalo Chicken Taco, which also contains bacon, melted cheese, and, of course, buffalo sauce. It was crunchy and juicy, and had a little bit of heat from the buffalo sauce. The crispy bacon with the cheese was outstanding, and the flavors and textures were next level. This is one of my favorite tacos of all time!
-Elote
I took a quick break from the tacos and decided on the Elote next, which is Mexican-style corn on the cob, which is spread with crema Mexicana and then sprinkled with queso cotija and Cajun seasoning. The spices they sprinkled it with truly blew my mind, and the crema was out of this world! I love corn, and I couldn’t help but dip the whole thing back in the crema and enjoy every single bite. One of my favorite elotes I’ve ever eaten. It was phenomenal!
-Pork Belly Taco
After a quick sip of Poquito Stout of cleanse my palette, I dug into the Pork Belly Taco, which comes with fried pork belly with charred pineapple, garlic aioli, cilantro & queso fresco. I loved the mix of the crispy, salty pork belly with the sweet pineapple, which was such a refreshing addition.
-Chicken Taco
And last but not least was the Chicken Taco, which is served with a mountain of pickled cabbage, pico de gallo, fresh cilantro, spicy mayo and queso cotija on top. The pico de gallo was really refreshing. Of the three tacos I had, this one felt very tropical and reminded me of Puerto Rico.
