After getting my first taste of authentic Indian street food during my initial trip to the country in February of 2018, I fell in love with the flavors, textures, and spices from the subcontinent. When I returned to India just ten months later in November, my taste buds were all set on more exquisite street food and I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. If anything, this trip has made me love Indian street food even more! And I got to taste it all with my good travel buddy Sam from Samuel & Audrey.

On the morning of my final day in India, our amazing guide and new friend Rutu and her brother Haard took us to Parimal Garden, where we went all-out on our last breakfast tour of the trip. Come along with us as we continue to eat our way through Ahmedabad!
Right away, we started off with some healthy veg soup containing spinach, peppers, corn, and other vegetables from a soup and juice vendor just outside the park. It looked like a thick pea soup with corn on top, and had a nice, spicy kick to it from the peppers.
Next, I tried an Indian gooseberry juice with aloe vera, which tasted a bit like a limeade, but the aloe vera gave it a different kind of taste! I followed that with some bitter melon juice, which was so intense and extremely bitter! I did not like it at all; it’s the most bitter thing I’ve ever had! Everything we got there (one soup and three juices) came to 180 rupees.
At our next food vendor, we got a chaat-like dish called poha, which is a puffed rice dish that is cooked with oil and spices and has lots of vegetables, including beets, onions, and tomatoes, on top. It had an amazing crunch and lots of different flavors. There was a slight kick to it, spice-wise, but it wasn’t too hot, and the rice was thicker and more dense than usual, instead of light and airy. It was nice and refreshing!
Next, we had a Gujarati dish called Khichu, which is a dough made from rice flour and serves as the main ingredient in papad. It contains green chilies, cumin seeds, masala, and sesame seeds. It was like a really thick and filling polenta. It wasn’t my favorite, so I moved on to the next dish, which was a sliced pancake made of lentils that are fermented also contains yogurt, vegetables, and spices and came with mint chutney and tamarind chutney on the side. It had a strong vegetable flavor and was quite spicy, but was also so delicious! The chutneys had a different flavor than I was used to because they contained chilies. It was my favorite dish of the morning so far! Everything we had there came to just 90 rupees.
Even though my stomach was full, I needed more Indian food! We stopped by a shop for some dhokla with some coriander and chili chutney. The dhokla was light and spongy and didn’t have a lot of flavor, so I decided to eat one of the chilies on the plate, which was way too hot!
Next, I had locho, a dish from the Gujarati city of Surat. It was another dish with a polenta-like consistency and a little bit of spice. It was fantastic! The dhokla and the locho came to 60 rupees in total.
At our final stop, Hari Om Dabeli, we got some Dabeli, which is a bun that is stuffed with mashed potatoes, onions, pomegranate, spices, masala peanuts, tamarind chutney, and more. It was nutty and sweet, with a nice, fluffy bun. It was really delicious and reminded me of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich…in fact, it was even better than a PB & J! It was so good I finished the whole thing even though I was already full!
Our last item was a cold coffee, which contained chocolate syrup and a lot of milk. It was nice and refreshing, and perfect for a 95-degree day like this one!
