In this video we focus our food hunting in Kowloon. We start the day with a bowl of the best congee we have ever eaten- made with lean pork and century egg the congee at Mui Kee is silky, smooth and fresh.
Then it’s time for some chee cheong fun, rice noodle rolls from a local eatery. We eat the shredded duck cheong fun and the pork liver and ginger juice cheong fun. The pork liver and ginger juice cheong fun are the most memorable out of the two.
Next we pop to a cha chaan teng, a local cafe for a pineapple bun and a glass of hot lemon coke. Contrary to their name, pineapple buns don’t contain any pineapple but are so named because the sweet crust on top of the bun resembles the fruit. The bun is sweet and sandwiched in it is a slice of creamy butter. We ate the pineapple bun in the video at Kam Wah but after several tastings of buns in the area we felt the bun from Hong Lin (a few doors down) has a slight edge on Kam Wah’s version. It’s softer! Then it’s onto Hoover Bakery known for its egg tarts- said to be some of the best in Hong Kong. We finish with a dai pai dong dinner and eat an amazing Cantonese feast. Dai pai dong “big licence stall” are an important part of Hong Kong’s food culture. Originally many operated as street stalls but many have now moved into covered premises these eateries are local, simple, often a bit grimy but cook to order some amazing food. The number of dai pai dong left in Hong Kong only number around 25 so if you’re visiting don’t miss out on this unique dining experience.

Mui Kee Congee have recently opened a branch in Singapore at 1 Scotts Road, Shaw Centre #01-12, Singapore 228208. Open 11:30am to 2:30pm and 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Closed Mondays.
