At 145th Street the Food Warriors walked up and down Harlem’s historic Sugar Hill and definitely felt the effects of gentrification. Half of the people we spoke to sang the praises of Harlem Public – a fusion hamburger/bar food spot that screamed New Harlem (Peanut butter burgers!). But the other half said hold up, stick with the Famous Fish Market – a fried fish hole in the wall (literally!) with no seating that’s occupied the neighborhood for years. AKA: Old Harlem.
As much as a cream cheese burger felt worth trying, the lure of fried fish drew us to the Famous Fish Market where we ordered fried shrimp, fried scallops w/fries and big iced teas with lemon. We would have done fried clams but they were out.
