They were all still standing but the neighborhood was definitely changing and new restaurants like Dinosaur BBQ were popping up. Other restaurants the locals brought up were Red Rooster and Uptown Veg (a juice bar) and ultimately our chosen destination: Manna’s, a buffet-style soul food salad bar serving Harlem since 1984.
Dinosaur was definitely in the running and seemed to be winning over Harlem residents. But Manna’s and its food-by-the-pound sensibility was supremely satisfying. We got the mac-n-cheese (crispy edge style), fried chicken, ribs and a “Carmelo Anthony” – Harlem’s name for iced tea mixed with lemonade.
