The second day in Amsterdam I had to go for some Amsterdam street food. Luckily we had Albert Cup market close to out hotel coincidently (there are no coincidences in my planning) there is stall which makes one of the best poffertjes (Dutch pancakes) in Amsterdam.
Poffertjes – 3€ – The traditional poffertjes are with sugar and a big slice of butter. They were absolutely spectacular. I am always amazed when simple food tastes this good.
We had to go for another portion and tried some of the extra toppings (50p each). We went for the Nutella and strawberries. As usual, I didn’t enjoy the Nutella that much. For me, it’s like ketchup. It’s okay, sweet but it totally overwhelms all other flavors. However, the seasonal strawberries were perfect.
After the poffertjes, I needed some proper food, and we found this fantastic local store selling plates of seafood. Another must-try street food in Amsterdam is the Herring, so I went for it. I didn’t really know what to expect, as I heard mixed stories about it. The more surprised I was how delicious it actually was.
Herring contains up to 17% of fat, and you can feel it. It’s so lovely and buttery. I loved it.
In the Albert Cyup market is one more stall which I wanted to try. The original Stroopwafel stall. http://originalstroopwafels.com/ Unfortunately, the guy running the stall was on holidays, and the stall was closed. Bummer.
There were some other stroopwafels stalls in the market where you can try decent freshly made Stroopwafels but nothing I would put in my highly recommended list. So, I decided to try stroopwafels somewhere else, and you will be able to see it in the next video.
The market is closed on Sundays so if you are planning a short weekend trip to Amsterdam, plan your market visit for Saturday.
Some stalls take only cash or dutch cards, so make sure you have some pocket money with you.
Albert Cup market is definitely worth visiting because you can try many great Dutch street foods in one place. Which can be very convenient during the short visit.
