Riding from my apartment in The Jewellery Quarter I night-walked in the rain through the streets of Birmingham. I’m new here and wanted to to test my camera and show myself around. My walk started from where I left my bike at the Bull Ring Open Market on Edgbaston St, situated next to the Indoor Market – it sells authentic ingredients from Asia to the Caribbean and is teeming with characters in the day; but different characters at night. I headed towards The Arcadian and cut through Cathay Street under Birminghams sky lanterns, and into the city sounds.
I make my way round the loop exiting the Chinese Quarter onto New Street Station, then cut through John Bright Street to Grand Central. Then up Temple Street and coming back around along Corporation Street, past the trams and onto New St as the rain gets mistier and lights become more reflective. As I make my way down the steps past St Martins Church and back to The Open Market I complete the loop.
Although this video is a chance for me to fully test my new gear it was enjoyable to film and I tried not to interact with anyone, apart from the obvious. Hear the sounds, colours and energy of a city post lockdown on a misty Saturday night in Birmingham City.
